And so Nicole Kidman, already famed for accepting hard roles, takes the envelope a step further with “Babygirl”.
She is 57 and best known for her roles in films like “Eyes Wide Shut” and “Moulin Rouge,” but the actress has taken on a new and bold part that examines power and sexuality and professional relationships.
Kidman is Romy, a high powered CEO trapped in a loveless marriage who engages in a passionate affair with a much younger intern, played by Harris Dickinson, who charmed viewers in the breakout role of the Netflix film “Where the Crawdads Sing.”
The explosive on screen chemistry between Kidman, Dickinson and Antonio Banderas (who plays Romy’s husband) is promised in “Babygirl”, which hits UK cinemas in January 2025.

The film is a pretty complex power dynamic of relationships, and Kidman’s character is constantly dealing with emotional and sexual tension.
Not that “Babygirl” isn’t a challenging film, but Kidman had challenges beyond the plot. When it came time to film the movie’s intimate scenes, Kidman says she wasn’t prepared for what was to come.
She admitted in a candid interview that her scenes may often be too much sexually charged.
Kidman said: “There were times when we were shooting and I was like, ‘I don’t want to orgasm any more.’”
The actress was left exhausted by the intensity of the scenes, laughing, “I don’t care if I’m never touched again in my life!” It’s also like ‘don’t touch me,’ she added.

However, Kidman admitted that there was trust and caring between her and her co stars. But she spoke highly of the collaborative environment on set, where she worked with Dickinson, Banderas and director Halina Reijn.
Kidman, meanwhile, praised Reijn’s approach to a movie so sensitive that it needed a female director. Kidman said: ‘I knew that Halina wouldn’t exploit me.’ “It’s the story I wanted to tell, the story I wanted to be part of.”
Intimacy coordinators were also used by the three to ensure everyone was safe and comfortable during the more explicit times.
Dickinson echoed Kidman’s comments, praising the work put into the sequences, calling it ‘all very, very gentle’ with each other.
Kidman has played sexual parts before, but she admits that “Babygirl” took her further than she’s ever gone. She said she took on the job because she wanted to find new things about herself as an actor.

“I’m always searching as an actor, I’ve always been, ‘Where have I not been?’ She said, ‘And what could I explore as a human being?’”
Kidman said that her reaction to the script was huge. “It’s so funny, it’s hypnotic, and I was turned on by the stuff,” she said.
Fans will be eager to see how Kidman deals with her famous career’s new chapter, as the “Babygirl” is about to be released soon.
One of yet another example of the Academy Award winning actress’s love to take risks and try things out in the most unexpected ways.
